Talk Interdisciplinary/Other Student Lectures (Interdisciplinary/Other)

Speaker

Ali Hasan (KAUST)

Description

The last few years saw a meteoric rise in scientific content in social media. Many scientists and science enthusiasts have participated in this huge renascence. What started from YouTube a decade back has now transitioned into Instagram, X, TikTok, and more. However, science still seems behind, especially in underrepresented communities - like the one I am coming from. Misinformation, disinformation, pseudoscience, and others still represent a strong threat. In this talk, the state of science communication will be discussed, with a focus on my own experience. The goal of this talk is to offer a point of view coming from a unique background and to take other perspectives on this matter too.
